National Lake Blitz
Living Lakes Canada — The Living Lakes Canada's National Lake Blitz Project was born out of the continuing need to help people across the country understand climate change impacts on the health of our lake ecosystems. Lake Blitz participants help create a ‘snapshot’ of lake health in Canada by collecting temperature readings and photo observations at their local lake 2 times per month from May to September each year. Rising water temperatures are an important sign of climate change impacts on lake health. Warmer temperatures lead to increases in bacteria, invasive species, toxic algal blooms, and loss of habitat for fish and other wildlife. This not only affects water quality and quantity, but recreation, cultural activities, and local economies as well. Photos help create a snapshot of a lake’s biodiversity and capture any visible threats like invasive species or pollution. Volunteers are instructed to take temperature readings by submerging the thermometer at least 4 inches in 1 meter deep water. Photo observations are taken using camera phones or digital cameras and capture the lake, shoreline, water colour, wildlife and any invasive species. This dataset captures all of the temperature and observational data gathered in 2022 from the following provinces and territories: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and the Yukon. This data and photo observations can be found on the Lake Blitz Observation Map at lakeblitz.livinglakescanada.ca.

East Kootenay Invasive Species Council
East Kootenay Invasive Species Society — The East Kootenay Invasive Species Council (EKISC) conducts invasive mussel monitoring on various waterbodies across the region. A water sample is taken at each lake using a plankton tow net to test for invasive Zebra and Quagga mussel larva. Ancillary data including temperature, pH, and Secchi depth are taken at each water body and are shared in this dataset. Higher priority lakes (i.e., lakes that receive more transient use) are sampled twice per month, while lower priority lakes are sampled once per month from the beginning of June until the end of September. This dataset contains ancillary data collected from Moyie Lake.

Lake Koocanusa Foreshore Inventory Mapping Open 2016

VAST Resource Solutions Inc — This dataset contains the openly accessible data for the FIMP survey carried out in Lake Koocanusa in 2016. Lake Koocanusa is a reservoir formed by the completion of the Libby Dam in Montana in 1973. This transboundary reservoir extends 140 km between Wardner, BC and Libby, Montana. This study focuses on the Canadian portion of the lake. The East Kootenay Integrated Lake Management Partnership (EKILMP) commissioned VAST Resource Solutions Inc. (VAST) to complete this project. The purpose of this Sensitive Habitat Inventory and Mapping (SHIM) project for Lake Koocanusa is to provide baseline information on foreshore condition and environmental values to aid in future decision- making.
